Books Reading
The Trouble with Peace — Kindle by Joe Abercrombie — Reading
The second book in The Age of Madness trilogy continues the story as tensions escalate between industrial progress and traditional power structures. Abercrombie deepens the political intrigue while his characters grapple with the consequences of their choices from the first book.
Dungeon Crawler Carl 3: The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook by Matt Dinniman — Finished
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The third installment takes Carl and Princess to new floors with increasingly bizarre challenges. While still entertaining and maintaining the humor and heart of the series, the train level dragged a bit and didn’t have the same punch as the previous books. The pacing felt slower in spots, but the character development and world-building continue to be strong. Still a fun read, just not quite at the level of book 2.
Dungeon Crawler Carl 4: The Gate of the Feral Gods by Matt Dinniman — Finished
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Continuing the deep dive into the dungeon crawler madness. Carl’s journey continues with new challenges and revelations about the nature of the crawl itself. Solid entry in the series, though books 1 and 2 remain the strongest. Still an enjoyable read with plenty of action and character moments.
Music Listening
Maruja - Saoirse - Atmospheric and intense post-punk with a haunting edge. Perfect October vibes.
Games Playing
Fear & Hunger — 5/5
Played the original for Halloween and it absolutely delivered. This is a masterclass in oppressive atmosphere and unforgiving design. The mythological horror elements blend perfectly with the dungeon crawler mechanics. Made it most of the way through and watched others complete the alternate endings. Those first blind runs where you’re discovering the systems and horrors were incredible - genuinely scary and challenging in all the right ways. The kind of game that stays with you. Highly recommend if you can handle the difficulty and darker themes.
Life Updates
We started feeding Ezekiel “Zeke” mushed foods a few weeks ago. At first he could barely eat it - maybe just a little bit out of the shot glass I filled his food in. It’s amazing how quickly they pick things up though. He’s now eating way more and getting the hang of it. We heard Zeke say “Daddy” this month! He’s been saying dada and mama. Time flies.
Solomon has been doing addition like 8+8 and 9+7, which is crazy! He can count by tens, knows his alphabet, and is really progressing. Still some behavioral problems here and there, but he’s mostly a good kid.
