Ezekiel, the promised baby
Ezekiel’'’s story is one of faith and answered prayers. His journey into the world was a test of our family’'’s strength and belief in things unseen.
About a month into Angela carrying him, our journey took an unexpected turn. The doctors, with grave expressions, informed us that there was an excess of fluid around the placenta. This complication, they explained, could lead to a cascade of other problems. We were referred to specialists in Franklin, and so began a period of uncertainty and weekly ultrasounds.
Each week, we would hold our breath, praying for good news. The initial diagnoses were terrifying. They suspected a heart condition, or perhaps Down syndrome. The genetic tests for Down syndrome came back with a 99% negative probability, a small beacon of hope in a sea of worry. Yet, the concerns for his heart remained. The doctors diagnosed him with Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD), a condition characterized by holes in the heart. They prepared us for the possibility of immediate surgery upon birth, or at the latest, within his first year.
We carried this heavy burden for months, our faith our only shield. We prayed without ceasing, for a miracle, for a healthy son.
On March 4th, 2025, Ezekiel was born. The moments after his birth were a blur of anxiety and hope. The cardiology team whisked him away for tests. When the doctors returned to our room, their faces were not grim, but filled with a sense of wonder. The cardiograms showed no signs of AVSD. His heart was whole, and he was perfectly healthy.
God is good. We believe that He answered our prayers that day, turning our fear into joy, our despair into hope. In a moment of confusion, the cardiogram technicians returned, wanting more images, unaware that the doctors had already delivered the good news. It was a moment of divine comedy, a reminder that sometimes, even in our most trying moments, there is room for laughter.
Ezekiel has been a blessing from the moment he entered our lives. He is a good baby, a constant reminder of the power of faith and the goodness of God. His life is a testament to the fact that sometimes, the greatest miracles are the ones we hold in our arms.
